COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- A Nationwide Children's employee was killed on Wednesday morning when he was hit by a shuttle bus outside the hospital.

David Newsom was fatally struck after emerging from behind a construction fence on Children's Dr. Another hospital employee, Dr. Peter White, was also injured by the bus. He is listed in stable condition at Grant Medical Center.

Investigators have not commented on potential factors that could have led to the accident, such as speed or distractions.

A witness told ABC 6/FOX 28 the shuttle's driver, Karl Beem, appeared to be speeding when the vehicle hit the men.

"[The shuttle] seemed at a high rate of speed," Beverly Newsome said. "They went up in the air. It drug the one guy."

Newsome said Beem appeared remorseful and visibly shaken after the accident.

"It was horrible," Newsome said. "I've never seen anything like that before."

Police said they will not decide whether to file charges until they conclude their investigation.

Newsom, 35, was the technical director for the the Biomedical Genomics Core in the Hospital's Research Institute. White is the core's director.
