Pickerington Central Students "ROAR" for Katy Perry Contest

PICKERINGTON (Ken Hines) -- Students at Pickerington Central High hope their "ROAR" is loud enough to convince music star Katy Perry to perform at their school.

Central students shot a video using Perry's song "ROAR" for a "Good Morning America" contest that will reward a school with a concert featuring the award-winning singer.

The students' video featured an anti-bullying message that hit close to home for some of those involved in the production.

"It was deep for me," Austin Walker said. "[It] brought back some not so good memories."

The video enabled the entire student body to receive acknowledgement, not just those who excel academically or athletically, according to Shayna Fowler.

"I'm not a 4.0 student, and I don't play football, so what about me? Am I still a champion?" Fowler said. "We wanted to incorporate everybody, and all the victories we've overcome.

"We've seen eating disorders, cutting, walking away from abusive relationships. Those things should be celebrated and recognized."

Perry will perform at the winning school on or about October 25, according to ABC News.
