SPECIAL REPORT: Find the Cheapest Gas Online
Columbus, Ohio -- Where's your favorite place to buy gas? Can you get it cheaper closer to home or closer to your office? ABC6 On Your Side Problem Solver Tom Bosco has the answers to help you have money.
Despite a drop in gasoline prices since last summer's record-breaking highs, dollar amounts still tend to fluctuate around town. ABC6 On Your Side did some research to track down the most expensive gas in Columbus.
The Marathon station in the 1000 block of East Broad Street, in the King-Lincoln District, listed gas at $2.75 on Tuesday. Another gas station just 1,500 feet away sold its gas for six cents less a gallon.
More than four fill-ups at the difference in price between the two gas stations could pay for fast-food lunch.
The cheapest gas is still at Powell and William streets in downtown Delaware.
It's easy to find the cheapest current gas prices before getting in the car. Log on to ColumbusGasPrices.com. Motorists call in gas prices and the Web site maps them out.
On the map, green colored areas indicate the locations with the cheapest gas. On Tuesday, those areas were north and east of downtown Columbus. The highest prices: near downtown, Upper Arlington and Worthington.
Why the difference in prices?
James Patneau, of the Ohio Petroleum Marketers, said, "Everybody has different margin concerns and different requirements for what's needed to run their business."
Patneau heads the trade agency for gas station owners. He says the operating costs and competition fuel gas prices.
When hunting for the cheapest gas prices, remember to consider how much time, gas and money you're using to find them.SPECIAL REPORT: Find the Cheapest Gas Online
