REDS-METS

NEW YORK (AP) -- Todd Frazier homered twice, Brandon Phillips hit a tying single off Jon Rauch in the eighth and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 6-3 Wednesday night.

Pinch-hitter Jay Bruce drove in the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly one out after the Reds put together three straight hits off Rauch (3-2), ending with Phillips' single. Rauch retired Chris Heisey on a popup before left-hander Tim Byrdak came on to face the lefty-hitting Bruce. After that, D.J. Carrasco came on and gave up Frazier's second homer on his first pitch.

Jose Arredondo (3-1) pitched a perfect inning of relief for the Reds. Mike Leake struck out a season-high five in six innings.

MARINERS-INDIANS

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Ubaldo Jimenez overcame a shaky start to get the win and the Cleveland Indians pounded out a season-best five doubles to beat the Seattle Mariners 9-3 Wednesday night.

Jimenez (4-3) gave up five hits and three runs over six innings. He threw 107 pitches -- 27 in a long first inning -- walked two and struck out four.

Seattle starter Felix Hernandez (3-3) gave up 10 hits and six earned runs in only 3 2-3 innings. He and Jimenez combined for a 34-minute, 59-pitch first inning that ended with Cleveland ahead 4-1.

Travis Hafner hit his fifth homer and drove in three runs, while Shin-Soo Choo had three hits for Cleveland, which has won three straight.

INDIANS-TOMLIN

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Josh Tomlin isn't quite sure when he'll be back on the mound for the Cleveland Indians.

The right-hander said Wednesday that he is scheduled for a second MRI on his injured right wrist.

Tomlin has not pitched since going 7 1-3 innings in a no-decision against the Chicago White Sox on May 7 in the rain. He experienced inflammation in the back of his wrist a couple of days later and said it may have stemmed from gripping the ball a little harder after a couple rain-slicked pitches slipped out of his hand.

Tomlin said he doesn't think surgery will be required and that team trainers want to take a second look at the injury before deciding a course of action for rehab.

BROWNS-TAYLOR SURGERY

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor has undergone surgery to repair a torn chest muscle he injured while lifting weights.

Taylor tore his left pectoral muscle while bench pressing during the offseason conditioning program last week at the team's facility. A Browns spokesman said the surgery "went well" and the 335-pound Taylor is resting comfortably at the Cleveland Clinic.

The team did not provide a timetable for Taylor's return. Last week, Browns coach Pat Shurmur said Taylor would need "months, not weeks" to recover but would not rule him out for this season.

Injuries such as Taylor's typically take up to six months to heal. Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson missed most of two seasons with torn pectoral muscles.

If Taylor is sidelined, rookie defensive tackles John Hughes and Billy Winn could get significant playing time.

OHIO ST-MEYER

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- There were very few surprises on Wednesday when Ohio State coach Urban Meyer disclosed the team's official two-deep roster through spring workouts.

Yet he provided a cold shot of reality when he said the 2012 season rides on what kind of a job team leaders do between now and preseason practice beginning in August.

Meyer said, for example, if quarterbacks Braxton Miller and Kenny Guiton are able to develop a passing game during informal workouts, the Buckeyes would be fine. If not, Meyer said, there was "no chance" for a successful season.

The Buckeyes are trying to turn things around after losing their last four games a year ago to finish 6-7. And they'll have to improve without the incentive of a bowl game.

OHIO ST TRANSFER-TOLEDO

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- Former Ohio State forward J.D. Weatherspoon is transferring to Toledo.

The 6-foot-6, 215-pounder averaged 3 points a game while shooting 62 percent from the field in limited action for the Buckeyes last season.

Toledo says Weatherspoon will have two years of eligibility with the Rockets starting in 2013-14.

Weatherspoon played in 25 games last season at Ohio State. He was a high school teammate of former Buckeye Jared Sullinger and Michigan point guard Trey Burke.

Ohio State sophomore guard Jordan Sibert announced earlier this month that he's transferring to Dayton.

OHIO TEAMS-GOVERNOR

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Ohio college basketball teams that made the final rounds of their postseason tournaments have been honored with a reception at Gov. John Kasich's (KAY'-siks) residence.

This year, Ohio became the first state to send four teams to the Sweet 16 during the NCAA men's tournament, which included Cincinnati, Ohio, Ohio State and Xavier. They were among the teams invited to the Tuesday reception, as were the men's teams from Wittenberg and Wooster. The women's teams from Ashland and Mount Union also were invited.

The governor's office says it invited teams that advanced at least to the round of 16 in their divisions. Each team except Xavier sent representatives to the reception.

Cincinnati assistant coach Darren Savino says Kasich showed the group he's been working on his jump shot.
