Skydiver dies in Florida after parachute problems
March 19, 2010 21:19 EDT
ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. (AP) -- A man died while skydiving in Florida after authorities say he had problems with his parachute.
Zephyrhills police say 68-year-old Paul C. Luter III appears to have died instantly upon impact Friday afternoon.
Skydive City general manager David T.K. Hayes says it appears Luter's main shoot didn't open properly. By the time Luter cut away from his main parachute at about 300 feet, there was not enough altitude for the reserve parachute to deploy.
Luter was an experienced skydiver.
Skydive City is located in Zephyrhills, about 30 miles northeast of Tampa.
